Yule Tide Greetings

Tuesday, December 21, 2021 marks the first day of Winter also know as the Winter Solstice. There are many traditions that go along with the Winter Solstice and a few ways you can celebrate with your friends and family are listed below.

Winter Solstice Traditions:

Orange Slice Garland

Slice oranges and place pieces on a cookie sheet and bake in 200° oven for 4-5 hours. Then poke a small whole in the slices and string together to create your garland.

Orange Pomanders

Take whole cloves and push through the rind of an orange. The juice of the orange will seep into the cloves and give of a lovely scent. Place a few of the Pomanders into a decorative bowl and enjoy the smell!

Burning of the Yule Log

It is tradition to gather around a fire with family and friends on the Winter Solstice. Since most apartments do not have a fireplace inside you could improvise with an electric fireplace or there are many videos on YouTube of a Yule Tide fire complete with holiday music! Make sure to have a cup of hot apple cider or mulled wine to complete the festive spirit.

Hanging Mistletoe

Mistletoe is believed to bring peace and love this time of year, so why not hang a few sprigs around. Just be cautious not to hang in reach of your pets, as the plant is known to be toxic to many animals.
